The Fakes have evolved from a band that started life as the Cunts in December 1977 with Johnny McGuire, Jamzy ‘Egg’ McDonald and Brian Kemp from Stirling. They went through a rapid succession of guitarists including Jim Connelly, Sean
Kelly and a guy who might have been called Ewan, before Scotland’s most glamorous musician, Mairi Ross, arrived and stayed.
They changed their name to SK70 after a well-known lubricant, before becoming The Fakes. They played
all over Scotland, signed with Deep Cuts Records and released one EP, ‘Production’, on Deep Cuts Records in 1979. They disbanded shortly after this when drummer Brian Kemp was killed in a motorcycle accident.
